Summary
The design of an automotive glass run channel weatherseal is investigated using finite element analysis (FEA) techniques. In particular, the necessary design modifications are determined for converting the material from a thermoset rubber compound to a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV).
The performance characteristics of the thermoplast rubber design are analyzed and used to establish a baseline for the TPV design. The TPV design is then modified using FEA techniques to achieve equivelent performance characteristics at a reduced system cost, as previously determined by the baseline thermoset design
