Legacy CAD Data Migration
When Whirlpool Corporation's Refrigeration Technology Center selected Pro/E as their new CAD system, they were faced with a pressing legacy data migration issue.

Quick success allowed Whirlpool to expand the project to over 16,000 files

IGESworks®

"We knew that IGES alone was not the answer," said CAE Manager, Patrick Braun. "We were spending about eight hours per file cleaning up converted files within Pro/E."

ITI's experience with projects of this type and the capabilities of their IGESworks® and CADfix® data exchange tools, made them the selection to provide an automated solution.

Data consisted of 2D drawings. Because Pro/E didn't support IGES views visible entities, IGESworks was used to map this structure to supported entities and flavor problem angular dimensions, multi-line text, and other translation problems.

A Tremendous Success

While recreating the data in Pro/E would have taken months to complete, automated migration was completed in just three weeks.

Based on early results, Whirlpool put together a more aggressive schedule than originally planned. Instead of migrating the original 1,600 files, the project was expanded to encompass more than 16,000 CADDS files.

The project was completed with a tremendous success rate as all but 24 of the 16,000 files translated successfully. "By all accounts the conversion program was a tremendous success," stated Braun. "File clean-up time was slashed from roughly eight hours per file to a matter of minutes."
