PacMold
PacMold
Importing Problem CAD Files
PacMold produces injection molds for large and complex parts. The company produces 200 to 300 molds yearly for over 100 customers.

"Success has been based on our ability to offer the finest materials and unmatched value manufacturing," says President Richard Sanders. "But for us, building complex molds is the easy part --- the ability to read the original CAD model can be a real problem."

IGES

CAD systems treat IGES files differently. When geometry is transferred via IGES, the receiving application must do its best to apply its tolerances to unresolved geometry. This can result in fine details being lost during translation or gaps appearing between surfaces.

Triscanner™

There is no need to turn away CAD files because they cannot be translated
PacMold was asked to prepare a tool for Zircon's Triscanner -- a handheld tool used by builders and homeowners to detect studs behind walls.

CADfix enabled PacMold to quickly process the Euclid data into Pro/E, saving time against a very tight production deadline.

Barriers Removed

With CADfix there is no need for PacMold to turn away CAD files because they cannot be translated.

"CADfix is used in about 50% of cases, either for major repairs or downstream flavoring," says Sanders. "The many features encourage us to do as much fine tuning as possible in CADfix which, in turn, makes life much easier when we really get down to work. The real bonus," Sanders adds, "is eliminating the frustration of encountering files that we cannot crack at all."
