As mold and die supplier to the world's automotive, aerospace, recreational, and consumer goods industries, the ability to freely share data is absolutely essential to Autodie.
Agility
"Today its not your CAD/CAM capabilities that set you apart as your demonstrated ability to integrate those tools with customers," explained NC Programmer Mike Van Dorp. "It boils down to becoming more agile in working with all types of CAD/CAM data -- regardless of its origin."
95% Clean Data
Autodie was faced with the task of creating a truck hood die. The file was large and complex consisting of nearly 3,000 surfaces. Reading the file into CATIA proved to be a problem and with IGES alone only half of the surfaces translated successfully.
Autodie quickly turned to IGESworks™ allowing independent entities to be located and those nonessential were eliminated. Next trim curves were regenerated to 144s and run it through the Validation feature to detect and automatically correct common IGES problems.
"We translated the data into CATIA with 95% of the data coming through cleanly." said Van Dorp. "Without IGESworks it would literally take days of trial and error."
In addition to date exchange, Autodie also uses IGESworks to quote jobs for engineering changes or for viewing data prior to translation. This helps verify that the data is complete and clean.
