Biography

Don Hemmelgarn
Executive VP and President, ITI TranscenData

Don Hemmelgarn joined ITI in 1984 and today directs the company's Product Data Interoperability business -- ITI TranscenData. Don has an extensive background in the development and application of product data interoperability technologies and solutions.

Mr. Hemmelgarn has participated in several STEP pilot projects including AeroSTEP, AutoSTEP, C-STAR, PAS-C, and STIR. He developed the vision and teaming partners for the ENGEN program focused on extending STEP to exchange design intent information via parametrics, constraints and features. He works closely with leading CAD/CAM vendors including Autodesk, Computervision, Parametric Technology Corporation, and SDRC to develop strategies/solutions for STEP implementation.

Don managed development projects that implemented IGES translation software for major CAD/CAM system vendors. He provided technical management and consulting to the Air Force's Geometric Modeling Applications Interface Program (GMAP), which focused on development of next-generation product data exchange technology.

In 1992 Don became a member of the PDES, Inc. Executive Board working with executives from Boeing, GM, Ford, Lockheed Martin and others to plan and prioritize PDES, Inc. projects which accelerate the implementation of STEP technology. His experience also includes being an officer on the Board of Directors for the United States Product Data Association (US PRO).

Prior to joining ITI, Mr. Hemmelgarn's experience was focused in the area of engineering graphics software support and development. He has considerable experience with the software development environments of several major CAD/CAM systems including Applicon, Computervision CADDS4X, CATIA, CADAM, Gerber IDS-80 and Prime PDGS. At Kenner, his work concentrated in applying graphics and analysis software in the field of plastics. He also developed software tools to aid in the NC machining of complex injection molds.
